I could use a hard frost. Did yardwork today and it’s still touching 90F.

yep.  mine got nuked last weekend.  pulled them all yesterday.  never got any ghosts to ripen.  I’ll have to remember to start the seeds in January and not March.

I think I prefer the 55-60F that I saw outside this afternoon, though it'll get colder here soon too.

Mine didn’t bear much either. Don’t know why.

My dad up north has a table with agro lights in the basement to get them started before planting.

I don’t have a basement. I go with what the nursery has.

I mean that’s nice fall temps. I like 70-75, but it is nice to be able to wear you long sleeves and sweaters.

near as I can tell, as those insane people cultivate hotter and hotter varieties of peppers, the plants just get more and more fragile. I sowed several each ghost and habanero, and out of those only one ghost and two habanero sprouted.

in contrast, the jalapeno and cayenne sprouted within a week.

Yeah, and the jalapeño are my favorite go to pepper. My dad grows cayennes more and dries them.

Those little ones you see in the pic are like little capsules of capsaicin. Biting into one makes your eyes go wide but doesn’t cauterize your tongue. I’m about to have them in my omelet.

Man, I got all of one pepper from two plants this year. More than a little jealous.

Sounds like it wasn’t a banner year for any of us. I’m just glad I got a few fresh ones to cut over my pasta or fajitas.  I’ll put the rest in my chili for the school chili cook off Friday.
